Kings House
Robin Cameron
Close to the gallery facing the sea, the rather magnificent Kings House was built around 1870 and became Hove’s most prestigious hotel in the early 20th Century. During WW2, it was requisitioned by the Royal Navy to become HMS Lizard and latterly was best known as the Council Headquarters.
Now, the new phase in its history sees it become a stunning development of flats and we were delighted to be asked by the developers to source art for the common areas. It has been a really fascinating project and a real treat working with them.
This morning we took the first of the paintings down to the site ready for the opening of the Show Flat. The site is still a very busy, bustling, noisy place but the Show Flat is an oasis of calm in amongst it all. After lots of discussions, drawings and proposals it was great to see the work on the walls and our ideas come to life - I have to say we are very pleased with the result.
As the decoration dries and other areas are finished we will be back with more artworks, but today was a very exciting start. We look at the building from our own home and walk past it every day, so it is very nice to think that Cameron Contemporary is playing a little part in Kings House and in Brighton and Hove’s next chapter .
