MARIA KUIPERS
As a formalist abstract painter I work intuitively throughout the creative process until each painting is resolved. I love to combine painting, stitch and collage, including recycled elements and found objects. I choose from materials and techniques I am powerfully drawn to for each moment, including my starting point.
“I always intend to be true to who I am in my paintings.”
Spatial relationships are important to me and which depict' inside and outside' spaces. These metaphorical spaces are often represented through geometric shapes, akin to passageways, openings and doorways. Drawn line often links spaces and places together, which hold narratives of experience and memory, strength and fragility and 'states of being'. Using a layering process to build rich and visceral surface qualities and which portray a sense of lived histories and emotional and spiritual depth.
I hope for the viewer to feel emotion and be drawn into each space inside my paintings.
