A Personal Folklore
Tales Of Distant Shores:
A Personal Folklore
David on Rachel
“I first met Rachel 5 or 6 years ago. We had lots to talk about – we are both figurative painters but I was struck by how, although our work doesn’t look at all similar we both seem to share a similar attitude and ethos. That is to say I feel we have both created personal worlds derived exclusively from our feelings and our subconscious – a sort of personal folklore. I’ve wanted to collaborate with Rachel ever since. It’s going to be very interesting to see how our two worlds collide and interact when they are side by side in the gallery space”.
Rachel on David
“ I first saw David’s paintings at a Cameron Contemporary private view and was instantly drawn to them. Later that evening, I had the pleasure of meeting David and we had an engaging conversation about our practices and found we had a lot of common ground. To me, David is a painter’s painter, the language in his work is that of the paint itself, which I find appealing, as well as his bold use of colour to express emotion. Both notions are very much part of my own process. I am very much looking forward to seeing our work displayed together.”
